Blue Honda Civic (aemi Shorts: Signals & Circuits)
Inspired by Romantic landscape painting, which often portrayed weather conditions, unpopulated terrain, religious themes and hunting scenes, ‘Blue Honda Civic’ is a minimalistic road movie mirroring the emotions of the driver through the views (s)he has chosen to look at.
P45 (aemi Shorts: Signals & Circuits)
While walking through the local landscape, the artist’s inner voice is heard speculating, at a frenzied pace, on where all the artists have disappeared to and why much of the rural psychogeography around her feels like a scene from Wittgenstein’s Mistress.
Yoga For The Eyes (aemi Shorts: Signals & Circuits)
Originally made for Open Ear Festival in Baltimore, Cork, this video assemblage uses archival footage, diagrams and animated objects to recount a non-linear exploration of free parties, festivals, riots and Celtic mysticism. Featuring a soundtrack by Jennifer Moore.
A State of Grace (aemi Shorts: Signals & Circuits)
Inspired by conceptual art and structural film, John Smith has developed a body of work that subverts boundaries between documentary and fiction. In ‘A State of Grace’, enigmatic diagrams and Smith’s poor hearing on a flight to Ireland trigger a radical interpretation of Ryanair’s safety instructions.
Hacked Circuit (aemi Shorts: Signals & Circuits)
While portraying a Foley artist at work on a scene from Coppola’s 'The Conversation', typically invisible support mechanisms of filmmaking are exposed, as are, by extension and quotation, governmental violations of individual privacy, thereby revealing multiple layers of fabrication and imposition.
Receiver (aemi Shorts: Signals & Circuits)
Drawing on a wide range of archival recordings in which communication breaks down and would-be civil conversations devolve into public altercations, ‘Receiver’ bears out the old maxim that those who speak loudest rarely listen – and those with the most to say are seldom heard.
aemi Shorts: Signals & Circuits Q&A
Q&A with Alice Butler & Daniel Fitzpatrick from aemi and featured artists Deborah Stratman, Michelle Doyle, Laura Fitzgerald, John Smith and Jenny Brady
