Set in the aftermath of the abolition of slavery in Brazil, All the Dead Ones explores the legacy of servitude through the complicated entanglement between former slave owners and the family once in their possession. Blending historical period melodrama with elements of magical realism, the film analyses its themes in a daring and audacious manner, expressing an invigorating freeform tonality, and conceiving an ambitious, striking examination of societal ills, and the pernicious and unresolved legacy of racism in South America.
